Finally it´s essential that you find a suitable domain name.

You definetly want a suitable doman name for many reasons:

• People finding your site in search engines or whereever else will see the domain name and will be more interested to visit your site if the domain name meets their expectations.
• You will be ranked better by search engines.
• You have a much better chance being added by directory indices like dmoz.
• If you want to be listed in wikipedias, this is a must. if they like the domain name, they might accept your site even if it is a hidden commercial site.
  just obscure the things a bit and they will be happy. but they will not even take the time to check your contents if the domain name does not fit. they are really so superficial.

But how can you find one?

I use the site of United-Domains because they run the most convenient domain search i know. You just enter an expression and they will search all the TLDs for you and check if these domains are free four you to register them. The site is in german only, but you will be able to use it even if you dont speak german.

In case you don´t find one, we can help you with that.

Lets assume that you want to find a good domain name for a Yacht Club in Atlantida, Uruguay.

http://www.yca.org.uy/  - the equivalent of yc uruguay and yc punta del este seems to be free - but uy-domains are expensive.

http://www.yca.org/ is not available.

Additionally i dont like them too much, they should include what people search for.

These are all free (forget about the www for now, that' s only a subdomain name, thus included):

I would suggest you to reserve one or more of them.
(especially when the new harbour in atlantida will have it´s own club and you must compete with them !!!!)

Each .com, .net, .org will be about 15-20 U$S/Year.
Each .com.uy could be about 300 U$S/Year.

So my favourite is yacht-club-atlantida.org
